Five Days and Counting - The Race is Saturday!

Thanks to everyone who jumped at the chance to help me raise $2500 for Mira's Movement in the shortest fundraising campaign in history. Amazingly, gifts totaling more than $1000 have come in so far --even though one of the links in the email was broken! It's exciting to have so many people behind me in this effort.

Last year, I joined the board of directors of Mira's Movement to launch a national effort to help kids with cancer. I quickly learned that families with a recently diagnosed child face an unusual burden to get immediate help. It's a race against time to get critical information or connect with others who could help.  

So I dusted off my running shoes and registered for the Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon that takes place on Saturday, August 21, 2010.

Why? So I could challenge myself to do something big, and challenge my family and friends to help me support a great cause.   I need your help to raise $2500 for Mira's Movement.  You can make a tax deductible gift right now by clicking here and get me one step closer to my goal.

Mira's Movement is creating the Pediatric Cancer Family Connection (PCFC), a network to help families and kids at crucial times with shared resources, research and information at their fingertips. The same network will also provide a link to others who have been in their situation.

I'm hoping you can join me in this 13-mile $2500 challenge to help kids with cancer and their families with a gift to Mira's Movement before I cross the finish line Saturday, August 21. With your support, Mira's Movement will finish big this year!

While the long-term goals of Mira's Movement are far reaching, our immediate goal is to work with families in Central New York and the Southern Tier including Rochester, Syracuse and Binghamton. In our first year of work, we have been joined by medical professionals, community leaders, and others to champion and address the needs of these families.

As the organization embarks on its third full year, we need all the help we can get to build programs for pediatric cancer families and expand our reach in New York and elsewhere.
